The Daniel Arato Spirit Day

Daniel Arato
Dan's exuberance and the manner in which he embraced life to the fullest was highly regarded at STS. He was outgoing, thoughtful and kind, and radiated an energy and appeal that was appreciated by all who encountered him. Whether Dan was adding comic relief to the classroom, entertaining other students, or simply grinning in that knowing way of his - Dan could turn even the most ordinary event into a joyful experience.

"Daniel Arato Spirit Day" is an annual day of activities in the Junior High. This special, annual, day-long event commemorates Dan Arato's zest for life, and the exuberance with which he embraced activities outside of the classroom at STS by celebrating and promoting school spirit through different activities/themes each year.

The day begins with an assembly, where faculty and students share the purpose of the event - focusing on Daniel, his characteristics, and why it is so important to promote and share the spirit he brought to STS through the celebration of this day. The day itself is comprised of a multi-grade, multi-disciplinary, out-of-classroom activity-based experience that engenders friendly "House" competition through a variety of activities. At the end of the day, there is a closing assembly at which the Daniel Arato Spirit Day Shield is awarded to the winning house.

In addition to The Daniel Arato Spirit Day, an award titled the Dan Arato Award has been established. This award recognizes merit, and participation in and contribution to school life and school spirit in the Junior High, by honoring one who best exemplifies the attributes of Dan Arato. Candidates are selected by an Award Committee and the award is presented to a student at Junior High Prizegiving.
